3 Stars in a 5 Star Masterpiece

Tonight, I…LoL..”Tonight is your night bro..” LoL, sorry, when I thought the word “tonight”, it reminded me of that movie “Twins”, when Arnold Schwarzenegger is going on a date, and Danny DeVito sings,”Tonight is your night bro!” LoL, I am laughing so hard right now. Well, if anyone knows what I am talking about, Shareen does, LOL!! Anyway…like I was saying, tonight, I saw something so beautiful. I saw three consecutive shooting stars, right here in Moreno Valley (the city where nothing happens). Now, I know some people are thinking,”Wow, who cares…”, however, this was so magnificent to me. The first shooting star, I only caught at a glimpse; I saw it from the corner of my eye and wasn’t even sure that it was a shooting star. I hoped that I had actually seen one, so I stared into the sky hoping for it to happen again…and then, it did! This second one was even more beautiful, and I knew it was a shooting star, and not just my eyes deceiving me. Then, the third one came and it was just as beautiful. It made me think of how shooting stars parallel so many ideas, metaphorically. For example, I compare shooting stars to God. It is difficult to fathom something so beautiful and magnificent, that when you actually catch a glimpse of it’s existence (for instance, when you feel as though God has done something in your life, or certain that you have felt him), you almost don’t believe it; you think your eyes/mind is deceiving you, but you are more attentive now, waiting to see/feel it come again, hoping to catch it, to see if what you saw/felt was actually what you thought you were seeing/feeling. So, then you see/feel it again, and you are sure now of it’s existence, but it still blows your mind because of how amazing it is!

I think it is just incredible how God has given us a mind that is able to possess the acknowledgment of beauty and art. I mean, if he wanted to, he could have made the sky a blank face without expression, or he could have made melody and song just a dry sound. It is so great that we have the ability to understand beauty, and to create it. We could have been created only to have the ability to look at a flower or the sky or people, or a tree and just see that, just see nouns, but instead, we can see more. We can identify emotion in the colors, the life, and the withering of flowers and we can apply those emotions, and see the manifestation of those emotions in people! Like Crista from the movie, “Fern Gully”, explains ( :P ), we can feel a tree’s pain! Geez, and the sky! Well, the sky just seems to represent the facets of God. We have dawn, we have night, we have twilight, we have a downcast sky, a sunny sky… life comes from the sky. The sky is multi-faceted, but ultimately it is the sky, it is one thing, and it is always beautiful. That is the same way I look at God. All these facets represent different emotions and feelings that God has, but ultimately, God is God, he is life and he is beautiful.

When a painter paints a picture, s/he illustrates more than just an image. S/he illustrates a point or an idea or a revelation that the viewer is expected to discover. You can’t just look at something and expect to know what it means, you have to “look harder” (As quoted by Rafiki in “The Lion King”. Geez…what’s with all the movie quotes, lol?) The great thing is, all we need is our eyes, our hearts and our minds. The answers lie in the picture. I apply this same idea to life, and the world we live in.

An Aspiring Writer’s Position on “Writer’s Block”

I’m always inspired to write. I personally don’t believe in writer’s block. The world is my muse. Emotions(love, fear, hate, regret, sadness, etc.) are a poet’s tools to effective and raw writing. When a writer is feeling too apathetic or even too overwhelmed, they find themselves in the state of writer’s block. However, feeling completely apathetic, or unemotional, should not steal away your inspiration to write! When I write and find myself without a muse, I draw empathy for the focal point of my piece from past experiences. I constantly document everything that happens in my life because I know that memories tend to fade. With time, the feelings and surreal nature associated with a particular event in life begins to go numb, almost as if it never really happened, as if it were a dream. As an artist, how can you possibly draw emotion from a dry memory?
I know that there are some memories which you might actually want to fade and hope that it will lose itself in some dark, untouched corner of your mind. However, it may not be healthy to smother your bad memories. Every mental/emotional infliction caused by bad things that happen to us will eventually manifest itself in some way. Its best to address your memories and try to solve any potential future issues that may result from them.
Anyway, I got off the subject! So, basically I document everything that happens in my life so that I never run out of memories to draw emotion from; so, that I will never have to suffer with writer’s block because of a lack of inspiration! Besides, I want my life to be a 400 page book…not a pamphlet, lol. I want to be able to look back on my life when I am 80 years old and be able to illustrate it with multiple pictures of diverse worlds and situations. I don’t want it to be void! Even if you are not a writer, who knows, maybe by documenting or “journaling” the events in your life, you can find a pattern which may have been responsible for a niche in your personality. Hey, it’s not a “girly” thing either! As I recall, Doug Funnie always had a journal on hand! :) Anyway, its always nice to look at your life as if it were a novel, and you are, not only the main character, but also the reader! Ok?? Bye! <3 Jenn <3

P.S. I am not talking about the “type” of writer’s block that occurs when you’ve written so much, and you need a break. I am talking about the writer’s block that people complain of because they feel like they have a lack of inspiration of which to play off of at the time. So, don’t get offended if you disagree… Its mere opinion and just random thoughts anyway. ;)

Here are a few relevant quotes from my favorite poet, William Butler Yeats:

“The creations of a great writer are little more than the moods and passions of his own heart, given surnames and Christian names, and sent to walk the earth. ”

“I think you can leave the arts, superior or inferior, to the conscience of mankind.”

“People who lean on logic and philosophy and rational exposition end by starving the best part of the mind.”

Its Green, like Grass

Today, I had another one of those adventurous, dangerous, wondrous, ponderous, fun..derous photo shoots with Amy (my photographer, who is amazing :) ) Ok, so she decided she wanted me to wear this dress that I never thought I would ever wear again, my prom dress. However, I didn’t really mind, because the dress is green, like grass, and I like the combination of green and grass.

We went to the Botanical Gardens for the shoot, which is a breathtakingly beautiful, multifaceted, nature place. Unfortunately though, as soon as nature seems to be too good to be true, something has to interfere and destroy its perfection. What is that something? Bugs and lizards! Haha, ya, they were everywhere! We sacrificed a lot of great spots because I didn’t want to cross paths with anything alive and inhuman. I’m not a complete wuss though. I was barefoot, walking on a ground of wannabe grass which was actually 7 feet deep of leaves and mud and jumping spiders and who knows what else. No exaggeration….well. I did see some interesting things though: I saw the silhouette of a lizard humping a tree (no, you aren’t dyslexic, you read that correctly. The lizard was in fact humping the tree). Go ahead and take a few seconds to fully imagine that…1….2….3…

We also met an old man who doesn’t like raisins in his oatmeal cookies, so he uses chocolate chips instead. His name was Jack and he was 83 going on 29 (in his words). He was sooo funny. He is a marathon runner and he said that when he was younger he would use his stopwatch to time how fast he ran his miles, but now he uses his stopwatch to time how slow he runs his miles. Hahaha, I thought that was so funny. He also told me that I must have British blood because I am slow at getting jokes (I don’t know how that makes sense, but, it was pretty funny.) Then he used the phrase, “pain in the patoot,” instead of pain in the you know what! Hahaha, that is so cute, I am going to say that now. You are such a pain in the patoot. He told us he had learned a little Arabic from one of his Egyptian friends, so he spoke to me in Arabic and then turned to speak to Amy in an exaggerated English yokel tone. Haha, that was sooo funny. Old people are sooo cool, they make the earth vibrate.

You know, you never truly appreciate nice grass until you are forced to sit in patchy, ugly grass with bugs. It’s experiences like these that makes me so happy to live around beautiful greeeeeeen grass that I can lay down in and write a song, then stare at the sky and listen to The Cranberries. If you stare directly into the sky at twilight, you can tell how round the earth is!
So, the lesson learned today isssss-Some things are sooooo beautiful to look at, but as soon as you come in contact with it, it becomes a little ugly! Kind of like a venus fly trap or fire!! Also, if you fall down on your butt or someone scares the patooti (haha) out of you, don’t let the first words that come out of your mouth be, “Mommy!” or you will be eternally teased for it, lol. Right, Ms. Amy? Ok, well, I am going to end this book of a blog now. My thumb is having a migraine. :)

Oooooh, P.S. About that bum that was eating wood a few blogs down. Ya, I saw him the other day…he did turn into a tree, and he did reach the star. However, they are both having a difficult time turning back into humans! :o
